Breaking the Silence,
Building a Community

The Bloom Project was founded by Maya Uggirala after she testified in court about the sexual assault she experienced. Walking out of that courtroom, she realized that healing requires speaking—and that no one should have to heal alone.

What started as a small blog where Maya shared her journey—writing about healing, grounding techniques, and culturally relevant mental health resources—has grown into a community reaching over 10,000 girls across the Bay Area in just six months.

The Bloom Project exists because Maya saw the power of breaking silence. She understood that communities aren't transformed through grand gestures, but through the courage to speak up and remind others that they deserve dignity. Our name represents the belief that with the right support, every survivor can bloom.

Built From Courage

Maya Uggirala, Founder of The Bloom Project

Maya Uggirala

Founder & Student Advocate

Maya founded The Bloom Project after testifying in court about her own experience with sexual assault. That moment—stepping up to speak when speaking felt impossible—taught her that healing requires breaking silence.

She started with a simple blog, sharing grounding techniques, healing journeys, and culturally relevant mental health resources. Within six months, the blog reached over 10,000 visitors. Maya then launched monthly resilience circles at her school, creating spaces where girls could share experiences, learn coping strategies, and rebuild confidence.

Maya believes that communities aren't transformed through grand gestures—they're transformed through the courage to break silence and remind others that they deserve dignity. The Bloom Project is her way of ensuring no one has to heal alone.

"My experience didn't just help me heal; it helped me build a space where others could begin to heal, too."
